Subject: Subnet Mask Inquiry - Am I missing something?
As far as I can tell, a Winsock application does not have a mechanism to
determine the subnet mask. Is there a sanctioned way of doing this?
I am trying to construct a broadcast address that will just hit the
local subnet.
Thanks in advance,
Mark Z.

Subject: Winsock interoperability testing in Redmond?
Hi,
Is there any one who joined the Bakeoff for Winsock testing
took place in Redmond last month? I wonder whether there's no report
for the testing. If any one has any information, please let me know.
Thanks!

I just got the version 1.0b (6) from biochemistry.bioc.cwru.edu yesterday. It
works a lot better than the old 1.0a. I haven't had one crash today!
If you need the file, I am at 129.81.1.5 now and I have my ftpd running.
Try sending me a chat if you can't find the file.

Sure there is .... do an ARCHIE for SOSS -- which is a DOS NFS server. You
should find it on dorm.rutgers.edu and lots of other places.

I would guess that they are referring simply to PPP. PPP ordinarily compresses
the headers. C/SLIP also compresses the headers, which gives it a performance
boost compared to SLIP.
You could check with Netcom's technical support people to see if anyone else is
using the Chameleon Sampler.
The technical support people at Netmanage sent me a message today. To use PPP
with dynamic addresses, you set the IP address to 1.1.1.1. Chameleon Sampler
will reset the IP address, the netmask, etc. during the login negotiation. You
should not have to tweak anything else.
Using 1.1.1.1 is non-standard. Even Chameleon 4.0 does not use this scheme.
Instead you set the IP address to 0.0.0.0, which is the standard way of
handling dynamic IP address assignment. That is exactly how I set mine.
